Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid Surgery or Blepharoplasty:
This is a procedure which is intended to reshape the lower and upper eyelids through the removal and/or repositioning of excess tissue, and by reinforcing the surrounding muscles and tendons. This type of cosmetic surgery can be done for cosmetic or functional reasons, or perhaps both reasons may come into play.
If there is a large amount of upper eyelid skin, it can actually hang over the eyelashes and cause the loss of peripheral vision. It is the upper and outer areas of the visual field that are usually affected, and this condition can actually cause difficulty in daily activities such as reading and driving.
In this instance, surgery on the upper eyelid is performed, and peripheral vision is improved. If you have a lesser amount of excessive skin, you can still opt to have the surgery done for cosmetic reasons.
Whether it is done to remove “bags” under the eyes, puffy lower eyelids, or excessive wrinkling, blepharoplasty on the lower eyelids is most often performed for cosmetic reasons.
